Exercise Is Medicine–On Campus is a program that strives to motivate and encourage all students, faculty, and staff on campus to find ways to stay physically active.

 

 

 

 

We provide

  • FREE Exercise Is Medicine–Online Coaching!
    • This is 45- minute virtual appointment with a certified personal trainer where you will receive a personalized exercise prescription. You will complete a health and fitness history questionnaire before the appointment, discuss goals, barriers, and physical activity guidelines with the coach. Your exercise prescription will include a basic weight training plan that can be done at home or at the Rutgers Recreation Fitness Centers. Once the first appointment is completed, an in-person 30-minute session can be scheduled with the coach to help with the proper form and equipment usage.     • The program supports Academic classes such as AEROBIC FITNESS II that are open to all students. Check out the classes offered by the department of Kinesiology and Health: https://kines.rutgers.edu/undergraduate-courses
    • Exercise is medicine month (October) programming and other programs such as the step challenge that promote activity.
       
  • FREE Exercise Is Medicine– In- Person Coaching!
    • Free in-person exercise prescription sessions sponsored by EIM-O (Exercise is Medicine-On Campus). Meet with a certified personal trainer to create a plan to meet the physical activity guidelines. We will show you a simple weight training program including how to use machines, adjust settings, and choose appropriate weights. Leave this session with an achievable plan and increase confidence in lifting weights in the Rutgers fitness centers. 
    • The session will consist of:
      1. Review of health and fitness history, including your current activity and goals 
        Discuss your personalized exercise prescription to meet the physical activity guidelines (150 minutes of moderate activity and muscular conditioning twice per week)
      2. Introduction to 6 basic exercises for upper body, lower body and core. You will learn how to do these movements, adjust machine settings, choose appropriate weights and reps and try one set under the supervision of a personal trainer.
      3. Please come dressed in comfortable clothes and sneakers.
      4. This session will be in one of our fitness centers.
