About Fitness and Wellness Classes

At Rutgers Recreation, we believe fitness should be fun, accessible, and community-driven. That’s why our Group Fitness & Wellness classes are free for all users - including students, faculty, staff, and recreation members. Whether you’re looking to sweat, stretch, or simply move, we’ve got something for you!

  • Over 90 classes offered weekly across all four campus Recreation Centers
  • Designed for all fitness levels with modifications provided by certified instructors
  • First come, first serve – arrive 10–15 minutes early to secure your spot as no reservations are required
  • All equipment and mats provided 
  • Schedules available on the RUREC2GO app (subject to change)

Les Mills BODYPUMP™

Build strength and confidence with this full-body barbell workout. Perfect for beginners and regulars alike, BODYPUMP uses light to moderate weights with high reps for an energizing, total-body burn.

Les Mills Strength Development™

LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT is progressive strength training, meaning
each workout focuses on a specific training protocol for building strength and lean
muscle. Go at your own pace while using tempo training and rep ranges to maximize
results. Whether new to lifting or a seasoned pro, LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT will build muscle, improve technique, and grow your confidence soyou can train more powerfully in the studio and on the gym floor. For best results, attend 2–3 non-consecutive days per week and/or pair this class with other muscularconditioning workouts such as BODYPUMP®, Core®, Pilates, or strength training.

Les Mills GRIT™

Crush your goals in this 30-minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) class that blends strength and bodyweight cardio movements for fast results! Perfect for a quick, full body workout that will break through plateaus, boost energy levels, and push your limits.

RU Strength

A dynamic, full-body workout mixing strength, cardio, and core training. Equipment may include barbells, dumbbells, TRX straps, or bodyweight. Options available for all levels.

Yoga Sculpt

Combine yoga-inspired movements with light weights for a low-impact, full-body strength workout that will leave you feeling energized. Great for all levels - equipment is optional.

BODYATTACK® is a high-energy, sports-inspired workout that builds strength, stamina, and agility. Combining athletic movements like running, lunging, and jumping with strength exercises such as pushups and squats, this class delivers a full body challenge that leaves you feeling powerful and motivated. Options available for all levels to be successful.

Les Mills BODYCOMBAT™

Punch, kick, and strike your way through this martial-arts-inspired cardio class! Set to powerful music, BODYCOMBAT boosts strength, stamina, and confidence - no experience needed. Release stress, have a blast, and leave feeling unstoppable.

Les Mills SPRINT™ (Virtual)

A 30-minute HIIT cycling workout featuring intense bursts of effort and recovery. Fast-paced, fun, and efficient.

Les Mills THE TRIP™ (Virtual)

Experience a fully immersive 45-minute cycle workout with stunning visuals and music that take you on a digital journey. The TRIP™ combines high-intensity interval training with cutting-edge visuals and music. Imagine riding through futuristic cities, underwater worlds, and breathtaking landscapes all projected on a screen while your virtual instructor guides you through climbs, sprints, and endurance challenges. Perfect for
beginners and cycling enthusiasts.

Les Mills BODYBALANCE™

Les Mills BODYBALANCE™ is ideal for anyone and everyone looking to improve their mind, body, and life. It is a modern yoga-inspired class that combines elements of Tai Chi and Pilates, designed to improve flexibility, core strength, and overall wellbeing through a series of flowing movements set to uplifting music. Modifications offered for all levels and no prior experience is needed.

Flow Yoga

This calming and accessible class is perfect for all fitness levels, especially those new to yoga. Flow Yoga focuses on connecting gentle movement with breath, promoting relaxation, balance, and flexibility. Learn foundational poses and flowing sequences to build confidence and mindfulness. Come as you are and leave feeling refreshed and
recharged!

Gentle Yoga

Perfect for beginners or anyone seeking a soothing practice, Gentle Yoga focuses on slow, deliberate movements and deep breathing. This class emphasizes relaxation, stretching, and mindful connection with your body. Poses are tailored to your comfort, making it a welcoming space for all levels. Unwind, de-stress, and leave feeling peaceful and rejuvenated.

Trifecta Yoga & Meditation

Enjoy a blend of Gentle & Restorative Yoga with a calming Meditation to finish. This class emphasizes relaxation, stretching, and mindful connection with your body. Poses are tailored to your comfort, making it a welcoming space for all levels.This class will end with a deep meditation, allowing you to unwind, de-stress, and leave feeling
peaceful and rejuvenated.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a gentle practice focused on relaxation and stress relief. It uses optional props to support your body in restful poses, allowing you to fully relax and release tension. The practice involves long-held, comfortable postures that help calm the nervous system and promote deep relaxation. It's ideal for beginners or anyone looking for a slower, more mindful approach to yoga. Equipment (optional): mat, bolster, yoga blocks, yoga straps

Les Mills CORE™

Les Mills CORE™ is a 30-minute full body workout with plenty of options. Build strength, stability and endurance in the muscles that support your core, improve balance, assist injury prevention, and become better at everything you do.

Les Mills Pilates™

Les Mills Pilates™ is mat pilates re-imagined! Improve your strength, mobility and flexibility with slow, controlled movements synced with music. Perfect for beginners and anyone looking to strengthen their core, glutes, back, and hips.

Les Mills Shapes™

Les Mills Shapes™ combines the best of Pilates. barre, and power yoga with modern beats. This invigorating, low-impact workout uses small, controlled movements to target and strengthen muscles as well as improve core strength and flexibility. No experience necessary, Les Mills Shapes is all about finding the "hot spot" and training intensity that work for you. Come find out why this is "the workout you never knew you needed!" Equipment (optional): sliders, light weights, sculpt band

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a full-body, low impact, workout which emphasizes alignment, control, and strengthening. Plenty of modifications and advancements are offered, allowing this workout to fit all levels. No equipment or experience necessary.

Pilates Fusion

Blend strength and flow in this class that combines classic Pilates with bodyweight and strength-based exercises. You’ll improve core stability and mobility from head to toe while moving through energizing, low-impact sequences. A fun mix of strength and stretch that leaves you feeling strong, balanced, and refreshed.

Pyro Pilates

Pyro Pilates is a modern, Pilates-based workout that combines muscular conditioning and cardiovascular intervals.  “Pyro” represents increased pace and resistance of movements when compared to traditional mat Pilates. Classes will include movements such as planks, glute bridges, and controlled leg work.

Les Mills Dance / BODYJAM™

Bring the energy and let loose in this 45-minute dance fusion class! Start with fresh, easy-to-follow moves from Les Mills Dance, then turn up the fun with the cardio-party vibes of BODYJAM™. No dance experience needed — just good music, big energy, and a chance to sweat while you groove.

ZUMBA®

Dance your way into fitness with ZUMBA®! This energetic class blends fun dance moves with cardio. Perfect for anyone looking to add excitement and rhythm to their workout routine. Accessible for all levels and ensures everyone leaves with a smile!

BollyShape

The perfect mix of Bollywood cinematic dance and high intensity aerobics exercise. It develops increased stamina, the body's natural rhythm, as well as its balance and coordination skills. The variety of moves puts lots of different muscles to work resulting in improving muscular resistance, flexibility, and your mood!

AfroFit Fusion

Experience strengthening your body and mind while embracing the vibrant rhythm of Afrobeats! Start with Pilates-inspired exercises to build core strength and mobility, followed by dynamic Afrobeats choreography that energizes and empowers. End with a restorative stretch to leave you feeling strong, confident, and refreshed. AfroFit Fusion is perfect for all experience levels, blending dance and fitness for a truly invigorating experience.

Ballet

*Discover the art of Ballet Dance! Enhance strength, posture, and flexibility, while also improving focus and stamina. You will learn the fundamentals of classical ballet, from basic foot positions to barre work and across the floor in this full body workout.  
*Registration is required – classes will run in 6-week sessions 

  • Ballet I: Beginner-friendly; no experience needed.
  • Ballet II - Build on your ballet foundation with more challenging barre and
    across-the-floor work. This class enhances strength, flexibility, and artistry
    while refining technique. Prior experience recommended
People Cycling, Cycle
SPINNING

Spinning® is a nationally recognized, non-impact, individually paced, stationary bike-based cardio class.  The instructor will guide you through easy-to-follow intervals that build endurance at your own pace.  Expect upbeat music, positive energy, and a great cardio workout. New participants are always welcome -- please arrive at a minimum of 5 minutes before the start time of the class to ensure the instructor can assist you with the proper bike set up.

Les Mills THE TRIP™ (Virtual)

Experience a fully immersive cycle workout with stunning visuals and music that take you on a digital journey. Perfect for beginners and cycling enthusiasts.

Les Mills RPM™ (Virtual) RPM (Virtual):

Les Mills RPM™ is a low impact, cardiovascular cycle workout that includes simulated climbs and sprints designed to improve cardiovascular endurance. This virtual instructor led class will have great music and cues to ensure a workout in which you are choosing the pace and intensity that's right for you.

Cycle & Core

Get your dose of cardio and core training in one class! Enjoy 30 minutes of cycling and 15 minutes of core exercises for a full body, energizing workout! Stay for both sections or join in for one, you're in control of your workout! Perfect for beginners and exercise enthusiasts alike.

Move4More

Move4More fitness classes are designed for students of all abilities—including those with mobility, developmental, or social disabilities—as well as those without disabilities, to come together in a supportive environment. You will work on improving movement, strength and cardio in an easy-to-follow circuit-based class.
