The Go Outdoors and Go Climbing Programs are subdivisions of the Rutgers Recreation Department. We bring students outdoors through multiple trips and courses while teaching survival skills for the adventurous outdoors person.

Go Outdoors offers many overnight and day trips to various places around the East Coast. Signing up for a GO trip can take you surfing at Spring Lake, rock climbing in Ralph Stover State Park, backpacking in the Adirondacks, and hiking in the Delaware Water Gap. Sign up for individual classes and learn how to belay, start a fire, cook in the backcountry, and gain other essential outdoors recreation skills through rec classes held at Rutgers.

Check out the Rutgers Rock Wall at the College Avenue Gym. The wall is FREE to all students with $5 day passes for all non-student guests. Shoe rentals are $1 a day or a 6-day pass is available for frequent climbers for $5. Come to the wall to climb, boulder, and belay on one of our many routes rated from introductory to advanced.

GO promotes environmental responsibility on all of our trips by following the outdoors moto, “Leave No Trace”. Facilitators teach students how to backpack, camp, and hike while leaving behind nothing but footsteps and taking nothing but photos. Our trips allow for a personal connection to nature while meeting peers with similar outdoor interests.
