Aquatics typically interviews in the spring for the following fall.

Challenge Course Leader

Responsible for the setup and take down of challenge course elements, instruction and facilitation of games, initiatives and challenge course activities. Facilitates group development and educational outcomes.

Head Lifeguard (promotion from Lifeguard)

Supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates the staff assigned to a swimming facility; performs lifeguard and related duties; manages the operation of pool facilities; and performs other duties as required.

Head Swim Instructor (promotion from Swim Instructor)

In addition to performing the same tasks as the Swim Instructor,  Head Instructors are required to supervise swimming lessons, ensure parent and student satisfaction, schedule instructors, dispense and collect skill sheets, attendance sheets and lesson plans, and organize and file waivers for the program.

Lifeguard

Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Rock Wall Supervisor

Monitors and assists in the preparation and maintenance of the rock climbing facility, equipment, staff and participants. Responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures of the rock climbing facility are followed.

Swim Instructor

Provides competent, safe instruction as established by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Plans and effectively organizes class time for maximum practice. Prepares weekly lesson plans and teaches with encouragement and positive reinforcement.

Trip leader

Provides leadership for the GO Outdoors program by ensuring a quality experience for all participants. Ensures the safety of guests by following all GO Outdoors policies and procedures.

Bookkeeper (Promotion from Business Office Assistant) 

Assists with aspects of Business Office operations including preparing reconciliations and updating financial spreadsheets.

Business Office Assistant

Provides clerical and administrative support involving key business office functions, such as deposits and contract maintenance.

Camp Counselor

Responsible for the safe and enjoyable participation of campers aged 5-11 years in all activities. Acts as an enthusiastic and positive role model while supporting the instructors and administrative staff.

Fitness Assistant

Provides supervision of the fitness centers, including policy enforcement, cleaning, and patron assistance. Requires CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (included in training). Applicants accepted 1-2 months prior to the start of the semester.

Fitness Intern

Rutgers Kinesiology and Health majors may apply to complete their required 3 or 6 credit internship in one of 3 areas: group fitness, personal training, or wellness. Applicants accepted semester prior to the internship.

Fitness Supervisor (promotion from Fitness Assistant)

In addition to performing the same duties as the Fitness Assistant, Fitness Supervisors have additional responsibilities for fitness center management and program support. Requires CPR/AED and First Aid certifications and at least a full year of previous employment as a Fitness Assistant.

Fitness & Wellness Class Instructor

Leads safe, effective, and engaging group fitness/wellness classes. CPR/AED and format specific certification(s) required. Applicants accepted throughout the year.

Fitness Instructor Mentee

Student opportunity for shadowing and team teaching fitness classes in preparation to teach on your own. Applicants accepted throughout the year.

Personal Trainer

Provides assessments and develops individualized exercise programs for clients. CPR/AED and personal training certifications required.  Applicants accepted 1-2 months prior to the start of the semester.

Spa Specialist:  Eyebrow Threader

Performs threading services for eyebrows, mustache and any facial hair. Certification for threading required. Applicants accepted throughout the year.

Spa Specialist:  Henna Artist

Performs henna tattoo services for clients in the Rutgers Community. Applicants accepted throughout the year.

Spa Specialist:  Massage Therapist

Performs therapeutic massages of soft tissues and joints in order to provide health and wellness benefits.  Massage Therapy Licensing in NJ required along with CPR and First Aid. Applicants accepted throughout the year.

Computer Assistant

Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining software and hardware problems and providing training to staff members on use of software. Advanced knowledge and skill with MAC preferred.

Computer Programmer

Develops, creates, produces and evaluates web applications for the entire Recreation Department. PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, MAC experience preferred.

Intramural Manager

Oversees assigned sport leagues and acts as liaison between all participants and professional staff. Assists supervisors as needed and schedules all sport officials. Applicants accepted during the summer or promoted from Intramural Supervisors.

Intramural Official

Facilitates intramural sport contests. Upholds sport rules and enforces penalties to ensure sportsmanship and maximum enjoyment by all. Applicants accepted during sport season.

Intramural Supervisor

Serves as game site coordinator and ensures fields are safe, players are eligible for play and equipment is available. Evaluates assigned officials and responds to emergencies. Applicants accepted in April.

Office Assistant – CAG Office

Provides quality customer service to our patrons and assists with registration for our programs. Performs clerical duties, completes computer projects and provides administrative support to the professional staff. Applicants accepted before the Fall and Spring semesters (August & January/February).

Marketing Assistant

Assists with event advertisement, general promotion, brand awareness and web development. Supports sponsorship lead generation and execution.

Marketing Supervisor (promotion from Marketing Assistant)

Manages student staff and ensures each marketing assistant is completing their weekly goals. Reviews weekly content, proofreads, and provides appropriate feedback where necessary. Assigns students weekly assignments and ensures there is appropriate event coverage. Oversees website updates, performs analytics of content and shares with the team. Assists in recruitment and training.

Photographer

Takes photos during assignments including major events, facilities, sport club and intramural games. Edits photos and posts to appropriate social media channels.

Social Media Manager

Executes various online and offline marketing strategies for the Recreation department through social media. Represents Recreation during in-person events and provides customer service by answering inquiries and/or referring concerns to management.

Videographer

Captures footage during events, sport club and intramural games and other assignments as needed, performing all tasks related to production and post-production including transport, set up, and operation of equipment.

Building Manager & Weekend/Evening Supervisor (Promotion from Desk Staff/Crew Chief)

Oversees all operations within the building, including opening and closing, ensuring proper usage of the facility, set up and break down for events and programming, reporting problems, responding to emergencies, providing customer service, and addressing patron concerns.

Crew Chief (promotion from Desk Staff)

Responsible for all the job requirements of the Desk Staff, as well as the responsibilities of their specific role. Assists Desk Staff, patrons, and the Building Manager while on shift.

Desk Staff / Information Assistant

Responsible for providing service excellence including, checking patrons into the building; renting out and collecting equipment; providing patrons information regarding Recreation programs, facility events, and hours of operation; answering the phone; giving directions; inputting data; assisting in emergency situations; and aiding the Building Managers and professional staff as needed.

Equipment Crew Supervisor (promotion from Equipment Technician)

In addition to the duties of an Equipment Technician, the Equipment Crew Supervisor provides distribution, collection and advertising for equipment loans and the rental program. Conducts research, maintains records and arranges for the purchase of supplies and equipment.

Equipment Technician

Responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, cleaning and repair of all equipment administered by Recreational Services. Responsible for cleanliness of rental equipment, ensuring all rental equipment is clean and operational.

Office Assistant

Assists with all aspects of the office operations, including answering phone and in person inquiries, registrations, sales, cash handling, and providing basic clerical support to professional staff. Experience with standard office software programs such as Word and Excel required.

Field Manager

Maintains a safe and efficient operation on the fields on Busch Campus including, overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the fields and providing customer service.
