#1 Tradition
This year is the 19th annual Big Chill 5K! Join the community of students, staff, alumni, family, and friends who run this race each year.
#2 Support a Great Cause
Proceeds from the race will support two charities: Winter Wishes, an annual holiday-themed event that provides clothing and toys to children ages 3-5 in New Brunswick preschool programs, and The Rutgers Student Food Pantry, which provides food to Rutgers students experiencing food insecurities.
Through the generosity of our runners and sponsors, we raised over $21,000 in 2020!
#3 Fast, Flat, Scenic Route
Start and finish at the historic College Avenue Gym, based at the location of the first collegiate game of American football played in 1869. You will then run past the oldest part of Rutgers University, Old Queens, where Rutgers started over 250 years ago! Make your way past Zimmerli Art Museum, the Honors College, and finally through Buccleuch Park. This fast & flat course is a great race to realistically aim for that PR!
#4 Chip-Timed Bib & USATF Certified Course
Every runner/walker receives a bib with an automatic chip timer. Results for participants will be available live on the Compuscore website and upon completion of the race. This race is also a USATF Certified 5K distance course.
#5 Inclusively-Friendly
The Big Chill 5K welcomes all participants. We are walker, wheel chair, and dog accessible! The entire race is paved roads, which are easily navigated by our racers.
#6 Receive a Rutgers Winter Hat
For runners who race often, don’t you have enough T-shirts busting out of your drawers?? The Big Chill 5K is different. Registration includes a Rutgers winter hat! Be sure to check out the fundraiser store for the iconic long-sleeve shirt and holiday gift shopping.
